SwissDEM is an epidemiological study of the health of the elderly in Ticino and Zurich. The name "SwissDEM" combines the word 'Switzerland' with the word 'dêmos' (δῆμος 'the population,' in ancient Greek), recalling the word dementia. The aim of the project is to study the prevalence of dementia and its impact on people with it, their families, and the community.

It is part of the cantonal dementia strategy and is funded by the National Fund (SNSF 184794).

It is a population study, conducted with the population for the population. More than 1,000 elderly people between May 2021 and August 2022 were interviewed by answering questions about their health and performing some cognitive tests.
