CoFFIE – A project on public dementia awareness
CoFFIE – A project on public dementia awareness
CoFFIE – Bridging the conceptual gap on public dementia awareness is a research project on public dementia awareness, active from September 2024.
Awareness is key in promoting informed behaviours, reducing stigma, and encouraging early diagnosis of dementia. However, many awareness campaigns in this field rely on vague concepts, inconsistent terminology, and unsystematic measurement tools, making it difficult to assess their actual impact.
CoFFIE addresses this challenge by aiming to develop a clear, interdisciplinary, and shared model of public dementia awareness that can effectively guide future communication and advocacy efforts.
Throughout the project, existing measures of public dementia awareness, effective communication practices, and the limitations of past awareness campaigns in Switzerland will be analyzed. The project also involves experts, professionals, people with lived experience, and local stakeholders through participatory and community-based research methods. This approach fosters dialogue across disciplines and perspectives, and value the voice of those daily impacted by the disease.
The ultimate goal of the project is to build a COmprehensive Framework For Informing and Evaluating future awareness campaigns in the field of dementia, contributing to more impactful, culturally sensitive initiatives that can reduce stigma and misinformation.
