MEDIATICINO is a research project that has been ongoing since 2014. The project aims to investigate the impact of new media on the well-being of pupils in Ticino during their transition from preadolescence to adolescence. It is a longitudinal study that includes an annual survey of about 1,400 pupils from fourth grade onward, a biennial survey targeting their parents (from 2014 to 2019), and the integration of pupils' end-of-year grades. In 2018 and 2019, thanks to a grant from the National Science Research Fund, researchers were able to collect additional objective information about pupils' smartphone use through the Ethica app. To emphasize the innovative aspect, the project has since been named "MEDIATICINO2.0." The project is carried out in cooperation with the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS), the Helvetic Institute and Papio College.
